Low Bunk Beds Perfect for Low Ceilings or Young Children
When shopping for a bunk bed, you’ve probably noticed that their height is usually around 64-68 inches. However this might not work for some homes where the ceiling is low, making sleeping on the top bunk very uncomfortable or almost impossible. There is a very handy solution to all of this, and it’s called low bunk beds.
What is a Low Bunk Bed?
This is a twin over twin size bunk bed, however the bottom bunk is almost touching the floor. There is no underbed clearance, which saves from the height of the bed. Generally low bunk beds are around 46-50 inches high, which makes them ideal for low ceilings. Also, if you have young children at home, and prefer that they sleep on a bed that’s lower to the ground, low bunk beds are a great solution. However, keep in mind that the recommended age for kids sleeping on the top bunk is 6 years and over, due to safety reasons. If your children are younger than that, you might want to consider getting them a bunk bed that can be detached, so they can sleep on two separate beds, and once they grow older, you can assemble it back into a bunk bed.

How to choose a low bunk bed?
We’ve already covered a very detailed guide on how to choose a bunk bed. Some important features you should look for include:
- What’s the height of the bed? Check it’s full dimensions (width, height, and length), so that you’re sure it will fit as planned.
- Check on which side the ladder or stars can be installed. With some bunk beds, the ladder is fixed only on the left or right side, while with others you can choose on which side you want to install it.
- Check what’s the weight limit or capacity for each of the beds (top and bottom). The kids, teenagers or in some cases adults who will be sleeping there should not exceed the weight limit.
